About This Route

July 15, 2002. We pedalled over to the Maam valley and up the valley to the pass down to lunch at Leenaun. "Famine ridges" can still be clearly seen on the grazing land sloping up the mountians marking the abandoned potato mounds on the desperately marginal area of the valley now reverted to bog and low grade sheep pasture. After lunch at the Coffee Shop we did a wonderful loop around Lough Tee, along the Atlantic, through Tully Cross, Kylemore Abbey and returned with the wind along the N59 and Killary Harbour to the  Leenane Hotel, our best accommodation to date, where we had an excellent round of pints before showering for supper at a table for 17.
