Routes in France / Provence-Alpes-Cote D'Azur / Entrecasteaux
A pleasant 2.5 hr route with mild hills and splendid scenery of vineyards, forests, villages and summer sunshine. A nice workout for the morning.
This route has some climbs to work your lungs and your legs. It goes through beautiful vineyards, forests and lovely roads. It is pretty quick, but a great work out.
The highlight of this course is the D279. It's a great road, recently paved, and winding through a lovely valley, up and down a few hills that satisfy in every way. Find a place south of Cabasse to turn around (at the end of the park on the left is a good spot) and come back by the Lac de Carces for 5 KM of fast and enchanting riding. The first couple of km's on the D79 are not the greatest, but it's the price you pay.
Note: the leg from Carces to Cabasse was in the Tour de France in 2009.
This route goes north to Salernes, and around the village, up to the Sillians de la Cascade. That's about a 5 KM climb from Salernes to the falls, and then another 30 meters until it is all downhill to Carces, through Contignac. Then follow the D562 to the D31 back to Entrecasteaux. About 25 miles, and it can be done in about 1:30.
