The famous climb to Els Angels from the Girona side. Take care on the bumpy descent from the Angel to Madremanya. After that, its a lovely smooth ride through the Girona countryside, and a fantastic smooth climb to Santa Pellaia (or 'Hincapie Hill'). If you`re fit have some fun with race simulation in the 53-12 (!) then its a relatively fast descent to Cassa de la Selva and back home to Girona.
This is a great little route for a 2 hour ride. Heading for Adri straight out of Girona can be a litte too hilly too soon for some so go through Sant Gregori for the flatter alternative (though with a little bit more traffic). The first half is super smooth with the left hand turn to Les Serres and down to Bonmati a lovely gentle climb and descent. The 2nd half of the ride takes place on the other side of the N141 and is a little bit more bumpy but nevertheless decent and quiet.
A fast large loop with a long smooth gentle climb to Sant Esteve de Llemena, a steeper 3-4km climb to Les Encies and a fast descent heading back South to Amer. You can continue all the way back to Girona on the C63 (which can have a steady flow of traffic though the road is nice and wide) but the climb up to Sant Marti Sacalm is not to be missed if the legs are good. Take the right turn for Mas Llunes just after Angles if you want a quieter road home (see Les Serres route).
A Girona classic, heading out to Angles before the 25km climb to the 850m town of Sant Hilari Sacalm, a good place for a 'cafe con leche' stop before the long descent down towards Santa Caloma. Most of the immediate descent from Sant Hilari has recently been recovered offering a smooth descent (albeit with some gravel on the corners). However, the old road between the cut-off for the C25 (Eix Transversal) and Santa Caloma is very rough, though probably not as bad as some areas of the West of Scotland! Take care not to take the wrong turn onto the new C25 road as this has a very high traffic flow and can be dangerous. The view up to Sant Dalmai just after passing Vilobi d'Onyar has been known to make grown men weep, especially on a windy day, though it isn't as bad as it looks.
A magical run down to the coast, best during the summer with the warm Tossa breeze. Head right down to the beach and along the waterfront, heading left where you'll pick up the back road and join up with the Coast road to St. Feliu de Guixols. You can stay on the road all the way North to St. Antoni Calonge though a shorter alternative to make a 3.5-4 hour ride is taking the left turn to the climb of Sant Grau. Slightly bumpier down to Llagostera where you can take the quieter road via Caldes de Malavella and Cassa de la Selva or head straight back to Quart on the C65 which does have a decent cycle lane most of the way.
Head through Quart out of Girona and to Llagostera as per the Tossa-St. Grau route but head East out of Llagostera and climb to Romanya de la Selva. From there its a long smooth descent to the coast, through Calonge to St. Antoni Calonge. From there its the coast all the way South to Tossa de Mar through the popular resorts of Platja d'Aro and Sant Feliu de Guixols. A top summer run. Combined with a paella lunch on the coast and for the very brave taking in the climbs of Santa Pellaia and Els Angels instead of heading back to Girona from Cassa de la Selva, this can easily turn into a 6-7 hour excursion.
