via Mt. Diablo, Morgan Territory and Mt. Hamilton
Training ride for Devil Mountain Double Century
Hilly ride, 2-2:30 hrs, an east bay favorite
classic route with san pablo dam road and a climb up pinehurst
Pokeslow mostly flat ride from Solano Ave Peet's to Orinda Peet's
A staple (constitutional) ride for me with lots of great views along both sides of the Berkeley Hills Ridge.

I ride this usually a couple of times a week and I can't remember two inches of downhill unitl you crest near South Park Drive.
Climb is actually 242' (1167' end elevation - 925' start elevation). Actual distance is .405 miles.
So, 11.3% grade

Seems low to me although the grade is considerably steeper near the top.
Goes up Centennial and El Toyonal/Lomas Cantadas for that short, lung-bursting feeling.
This is a good mix of hills & flats for a quick hour ride. Or stop in Kensington for a cup of coffee or lunch. The BART bike path can be used from the Del Norte Station back to Albany as an alternate to streets.
The zombie apocalypse has arrived, and you're stuck in Berkeley. What do you do?
Climb Centennial Dr., of course. No way lazy zombies, engorged with sedentary academics and Telegraph Ave. panhandlers, can climb such a hill - much less chase you down Wildcat Canyon or follow you up the next hills of Bear Creek Rd. and Happy Valley Rd.
You do run the risk of picking up zombies while going through the towns of Orinda and Moraga - prime zombie settings - but the townspeople of Canyon. most likely armed with rifles and shotguns, or at least bows and arrows, can pick off any zombie stragglers you might have in tow.

Only rated it as "pretty flat" and not "pflat a pancake" because it's a slight uphill going back.
