Routes in United States / California / San Jose
This loop starts off with nice flat paved roads with bike lanes and then switches to bike trail that follows Calero Creek. It then has a long climb to the IBM facility at the top of the ridge with a relaxing coast to the bottom. Starting/Ending point is the Motorola parking lot on Via Del oro Drive.
This is a easy ride from San Jose/Campbell area to a nice park in Los Altos. The roads are not too busy and there is a strech on Foothill Expressway that a lot of people use. The ride back is easier that the ride there.
Easy ride along Saratoga Ave into downtown Saratoga and back alogn Sunnyvale/Saratoga Ave
Pembridge Dr to North First Street. Trying to map out a decent way to and from work. A good portion of this route is along Almaden Expressway where there is a significant amount of traffic. From what I've seen bikers can navigate it without too much trouble. No real major hills, just a couple of overpasses.
The back side of Mt. Hamilton is just terrible ...
Route I'd use to get to Cal Football games. Just major surface roads.
One way commute route. Very flat, but strong head wind is a possibility.
Mt Hamilton, the highest point in the San Francisco bay area.
Sierra Road is tough. It's been a key climb in the Tour of California 2006-2008, of reduced importance in 2009-2010 but still on the route. But the Low-Key Hillclimbs first did Sierra in 1995, and it's additionally one of the climbs in the Devil Mountain Double.
Nothing subtle here: Sierra starts steep and stays that way. It soon enough clears San Jose's sprawl, becoming a scenic rural mountain road with excellent views of the valley.
But bring your low gears for this one: it's tough.
For a nice loop, continue to Felter then descend to Calaveras, eventually returning to Sierra via Piedmont.

The hill up 92 kind of sucked for me... I was seriously running out of stamina, and had to stop multiple times.
The downhill portion was crazy. The road sign said 7% grade, and I hit 35 mph coasting. Pretty sure I could have hit 40, but I wasn't confident enough to try.
