Routes in United States / California / Shasta

This route has some of just about every type of terrain and is short enough for weekday evening rides.  Start and finish at the famous "horse poop parking lot" on Paige Bar Rd.  Follow the Mt. Shasta Mine Loop Trail until it forks, at which point go left across the creek and intersect Mule Town Rd.  Turn Left.  Turn right onto the Buck Hollow Trail.  When it intersects the Salt Creek Trail in the middle of Salt Creek go right and intersect Mule Town Rd. again.  Turn right.  Turn left onto Paige Bar Rd.  Turn right onto the Clear Creek Water Ditch Trail.  Turn left at the intersection with the Mt. Shasta Mine Loop Trail.  Stay on the dirt, to the right of the cemetery.  Keep going straight through the intersection with a dirt road (the same one you climbed at the start), and watch for fresh steamers in the parking lot.

Unpaved but well maintained road that climbs relentlessly to an abandoned lookout tower with a fantastic view.  In cool weather be sure to bring extra clothing--especially warm gloves--for the long descent.

AKA "I forgot to put my parking pass on the dashboard when I started out for the Kanaka Cutoff Trail."

Start at the Brandy Creek Falls trailhead.  Head up the road past the gate.  The road turns to dirt after a few pedal strokes.  Stick with the main road until it turns into single track, then keep going toward Brandy Creek Falls.  When you reach the intersection with the Rich Gulch Trail, turn left onto it and stick with it until you dump back out onto the main road.  Turn left.  Turn right onto the Brandy Creek Falls Trail and start descending.  Cross the creek and turn right on the road.  Turn left when it intersects the main road again.  Turn left back onto the Brandy Creek Falls Trail.  Turn left onto the main road again.  Turn left once more onto the Brandy Creek Falls Trail and you'll end up back at the trailhead.
