B2B Route Request 00004
I created this map before I knew it was assigned to another router. I will leave it in place as a 2nd alternative for the bike commuter.
B2B Route Request 00009
This route gets you away from as many busy streets as possible. What busy streets are there, should have a sidewalk if you don't feel safe, but that should only be a couple blocks at a time.
Some traffic on some highway crossings, but overall nice ride. 49th is very low traffic, but hillier than 50th. Eden ave is to help with the 100 overpass on Vernon.
Mostly quiet street with a little more traffic on Penn once you cross 62.
This is a very urban route with considerable traffic. You can cut some distance off of the route by using Portland Avenue through Bloomington, but 12th has much less traffic.
Start out by by jogging east to Garfield, go north to syndicate and then 92nd street. Go right on 92nd to 12th Ave. Go left (north) on 12th all the way to 64th street. Be careful crossing over 494 - heavy traffic area. At 64th go right and take that to Bloomington Ave. On Bloomington, go north (left). You will cross 62 and the traffic is generally light here. At 60th, go left and make your way back to 12th and continue north. At 47th Street take a left. When you hit Park Avenue go right (north). Follow Park all the way into downtown. You will go left on 9th street. This is a heavy traffic road, but there is a bike lane. At Marquette go right and this will take you to 6th street. Take a right at 6th and you are there.
Bikemap.net wouldn't allow continuation of the route on the Gateway Trail into Stillwater. Our ride eventually went to Prairie Farm, Wisconsin
Begin your route riding west on W. 15th street and cross 94 and Lyndale/Hennepin. Pass Walker Art Center and road becomes Vineland Place, then Kenwood Parkway. Follow Kenwood to Sheridan Ave South, and take a right onto W. 21st street. In two blocks you will enter the Kenilworth trail and ride south. Continue on the Kenilworth trail, crossing highway 100. Soon after, you will reach Wooddale Ave. South. Go right on Wooddale and ride northwest to W. Lake street. At West Lake, take a left. Ride to your destination.
B2B Route 00070
Begin your route by riding north on Chicago Ave South to East 86th Street. Go right (east) on 86th to 12th Ave. South. Go left (north) on 12th all the way to East 64th Street. At 64th take a right and jog over 4 blocks to Bloomington Ave. South. Go left on Bloomington and take that across the Crosstown (62). This is a nice, low traffic crossing. At East 60th, take a left and continue on 60th back to 12th Avenue. Go right on 12th and continue to East 47th street. At 47th, go left (west) to Park Avenue. On Park Avenue go right (north). Park avenue will take you all the way into downtown with a bike lane to travel. Follow Park all the way to South 5th street. At 5th go left and take that to City Hall.
the crossing at vinland is busy, if you are more comfortable taking a foot bridge walk your bike north along lyndale and cross at the sculpture garden.
Please walk your bike over the foot bridge on 24th St over 35W the east side of the foot bridge is a staircase.
High traffic on Prairie Center Drive use caution.
Had to avoid a construction zone on this route.
A little confusing. In DT just past 5th st on 11th ave, take the sidewalk which turns into the LRT trail that is along side the road.
Cross the river using the U0fM pedestrian/bike way, not washington ave.
Once across the river, you can either take washinton, which will be busy with no shoulder or ride the sidewalk, but watch out for students.
At royalton and Glenwood, catch the Cedar lake path headed W and exit on the dunwoody exit heading E on Dunwoody blvd
Begin your route by heading a block north to the Greenway Trail. This will be your main vein of travel for your commute. This map does not accurately show the most recent construction to the trail, but it is there!
Head east on the Greenway for a long, long way - actually to its very end at the Mississippi River. There are only a couple of intersections where you need to worry about car traffic on the Greenway.
At West River Parkway, you will take a right and ride to Lake Street. Cross over Lake Street and get on the bike/pedestrian path to cross the bridge (going left). At the end of the bridge you will go right and take this spur to the stopsign. At the stopsign, you will take a right onto Mississippi River Blvd, now on the St. Paul side of the river. Head north a few blocks to Pelham Blvd. Veer right on Pelham and make your way up the hill. Continue on Pelham all the way to University Avenue. At University Ave., go right to your destination.
Begin your route by riding north on 3rd Avenue south. At 32nd Street go right for two blocks to 5th Avenue South. Go left on 5th. After Lake street you will come to the Greenway Trail. Get on the trail going west (left). Take this trail all the way to the Dean Parkway exit. Go right on Dean parkway for a few blocks to Cedar Lake Parkway and go left. Follow Cedar Lake parkway all the way around Cedar lake to the stoplight. Veer right and continue on Cedar Lake Parkway, which turns into Theodore Wirth Parkway. Cross over 394 and continue on Theodore Wirth Parkway all the way to Olson Memorial Hwy (55). At Highway 55 you will cross over to the north west corner and walk your bike to the frontage road that runs along the north side of the highway. Follow this frontage road to a righthand turn on Meadow Lane North. Go left on Dahlberg Drive to Olson Hwy Service Road and go right. COntinue on this service road to destination.
This is a hefty route, mileage wise. However you have the advantage of being close to the bike superhighway called the Greenway Trail. From Franklin and Lyndale, hop over 2 blocks to Bryant Avenue and begin travelling south. Between 28th and 29th streets get on the Greenway Trail heading west. Stay on the Gateway Trail almost to Hopkins. At Blake Road you will be going south. Take a left on Blake Road and follow it to Vernon Avenue south. At Vernon go right, then at Gleason veer left. Take Gleason across the Crosstown (62) and get on the frontage road - called McCauley Trail South. Follow this around along hwy 62, and then down along 169. At Valley View Road you will go right. Travel along Valley View (crossing 169) to Prairie Center Drive. Be aware of sometimes heavy traffic here. At Prairie Center Drive go left (south again) and take this to Prairie Lakes Drive. At Prairie Lakes Drive go left and follow to your destination.
Begin your route by travelling 49th Avenue North (east) to Hampshire Avenue North. On Hampshire go right (south) and continue to 38th Ave. N. At 38th take a left, cross over Douglas Dr. and turn right on Brunswick Ave. North. Travel south on Brunswick all the way to Medicine Lake Road where Brunswick continues, but you must jog over a block to the west (right). Follow Brunswick south of Med. Lk. Rd. to Duluth Street. At Duluth Street, turn left - towards downtown Minneapolis. Follow Duluth St., crossing over Hwy 100 where Duluth St. turns into Golden Valley Road. Follow Golden Valley road all the way to Theodore Wirth Parkway. You will go right on Theo Wirth (and you can get on the bike path here and be protected from traffic for quite a while). Follow Theo Wirth through its twists and turns, past Glenwood Ave., over Hwy 394 to Cedar Lake Parkway. From here you can see the Cedar Lake Trail and you will be taking this trail into downtown. You will go right to get on the trail and cross under Cedar Lake Parkway. Follow the Cedar Lake Trail to its end at Royalston and South 10th street. Veer towards the right to 10th street and follow to Hennepin Avenue. At Hennepin, go left and enjoy riding in the bike lane. Ride Hennepin to 6th street south and go right. This will take you to your destination.
Begin your route by riding east on 36th Street to Bryant Avenue South. Go left on Bryant and take that past Lake street to the entry to the Greenway Trail. You will ride the Greenway Trail all the way to the Mississippi River (at Hiawatha use the Sabo bridge or cautiously cross at the crosswalk). Once at West River Parkway, go left (north). There is a nice bike path along the river road. Take this to the exit for Franklin Avenue. Go up the ramp to the left to get to the Franklin Avenue bridge. Go right and cross over the Mississippi River. On the St. Paul Side go left on East River Road. Follow the river to Harvard Street SE and go right. Take Harvard Street until it turns into Beacon and veers left. Follow Beacon for a block to Union and your destination.
Crossing on the recently remodeled bridge #9.
This route is somewhat more convoluted than it could be right now to avoid the extra traffic of the 35W bridge construction.
Traffic should free up at Bloomington Ave.
Another option is Minnehaha Pkwy. but road surface is terrible.
Minnehaha Pwy to Hiawatha Ave
Hiawatha to unnamed park road
Park Rd to Fort Snelling connector trail
Connector Trail to Fort Visitors Center Parking Lot
Right on Trail near Historic Fort
Merge to Mendota Bridge Bike Lane
Left at first bridge exit
Merge to Big Rivers Trail or Old Hwy 13 southbound
Hwy 13 to Blackhawk to Kennebec
about as basic as I can get, but will involve some study on the riders part.
Caution: Traffic on Radisson Rd.
The bike route portion north of 117th Ave is beyond the scope of available bike maps and cannot be guaranteed for rideability.
This route is over 30 miles one way. You may want to consider driving part way, then riding the rest of the way.
Mostly paved bike path with some road.
- Begin your route heading south on Nicollet Ave. to the Midtown Greenway on ramp. The ramp is located next to a car wash just past W. 28th St. Once on the Greenway, head east towards the Mississippi River.
- At the end of the Greenway (W. River Pkwy.), proceed south on W. River Pkwy. to the Lake St. bridge. Cross the bridge, Lake St. becomes Marshall Ave. At the first stop light (Otis Ave.) turn right onto Otis Ave and follow this up to E. River Rd. This little short cut brings you over to Summit Ave. more quickly, avoids a lot of traffic and will save your legs from the long climb up Marshall Ave. Otis will hit Exeter, turn right to meet up with E. River Rd.
- Turn left on E. River Rd. to meet up with Cretin. Right on Cretin, proceed 1 block to Summit Ave. and turn left (east).
- Follow Summit Ave. to Kellog Blvd. (just past the St. Paul Cathedral). Turn right onto to Kellog Blvd.
- Follow Kellog Blvd. down the hill towards downtown St. Paul and prepare to turn left onto W. 7th St. The stop light at Kellog and W 7th will make it easier to make this transition.
- Follow W. 7th St. to Wabasha. Wabasha is a ONE WAY going the opposite direction that you want to go. You can either (1) walk your bike from W. 7th St. and Wabahsa to your destination, or (2) turn right onto St. Peter St. from W. 7th St. and take that down to 6th St. E., turn left onto 6th and proceed to Wabasha, turning left again onto Wabahsa and ending at your destination.

Note: You can cut some distance by going straight north on Hemlock from E. Fish Lake Rd. Check traffic and road conditions to see if you would be comfortable riding Hemlock.
Begin your ride by heading east on 26th Avenue North. Take 26th to North 2nd Street. Go right (south) on North 2nd. At 8th Avenue North, hop over a block to your left to North 1st Street. Take North 1st all the way to 5th Avenue South. At 5th south you will go right and jog back over to South 2nd Street. Continue on South 2nd to 11th Avenue South. At 11th, take a right, cross over Washington, go a few blocks and get on the light rail trail. This trail runs along side the train tracks and will take you all the way to Minnehaha Park.
At East 46th street, cross over Hiawatha (heading east) to Minnehaha Avenue. You will take Minnnehaha avenue into the park and all the way to the southwest corner where you will get on the bike trail that takes you to Fort Snelling. As the trail comes to Pike Island, veer right (to the west) and follow the trail / road to Snelling lake.
Begin by riding North on Louisiana Ave to 28th St. Turn right (East) and ride 8 short blocks to Dakota Ave. Turn left and look to the right side of the road for the paved park path - past the first baseball diamond, just before the park building. Follow it generally north, and take the left turn to the Cedar Lake Trail, which runs parallel to the East-West train tracks. Turn right on the Cedar Lk Trl. The trail will go under Hwy 100. After Cedar Lake (on your right) will be an at-grade railroad crossing, immediately followed by the junction with the Kenilworth trail. Turn left to the middle of the three paths. You're heading toward I-394 and downtown Mpls.
After crossing under I-394 look for a hard right that takes you under I-394 again. Watch for sand on the trail as you take an immediate left. Follow the path along the west side of the pond. It takes you to Kenwood Pkwy. You can ride the path on the N side of the road or get on the road here.
As you aproach the Walker Sculpture Garden the road turns right and then left. You should be on the road by this point. You're on Vineland Place, with a gentle uphill to a busy intersection, where you'll cross Lyndale/Hennepin Avenues. You're heading East, now on 15th St, with Loring Park on your left.
After crossing 1st Ave S the road angles slightly right, becoming 16th St, then continues East a few blocks, then jogs back to 15th. Five more blocks East, turn left on 10th Ave, go one block, turn right on 14th Ave, go one block, turn left on 11th Ave.
Take 11th Ave past the Metrodome to Washington Ave. Turn right and cross I-35W.Two blocks further you turn left at a tricky intersection. A right would put you on 15th Ave, the left is Washington Ave. After one gently curving block, take a left on 19th Ave. You'll head North, over the Mississippi River, and the road becomes 10th Ave SE. Take a right on University Ave and you're at Dinkytown and the UofM campus.
Just off 11th ave in DT, catch the LRT that run across 35W to the West bank
Cedar Lake and Theodore Wirth Pkwy have good bike trails for you to use.
Good luck bike commuting.
Caution: Traffic on Broadway and I-94/694
Begin your route by making your way to Louisiana Avenue South via the Hwy 7 service or frontage road. Go south on Louisiana to the Kenilworth Trail. Get on the Kenilworth trail traveling east. As the trail splits behind Calhoun Village, be sure to stay to the left on the Kenilworth Trail (not the Greenway trail). Continue on the Kenilworth to West 21st Street. At 21st, get off the trail and go right. There are several ways to get through the Kenwood neighborhood, but I suggest taking a left onto Kenwood parkway and following that to Mt. Curve Avenue. Go right on Mt. Curve and continue on that to Groveland Terrace. Go left at Groveland Terrace and continue on across Lyndale Avenue. Groveland Terrace becomes Groveland Avenue. Follow Groveland Avenue to Clifton Avenue and go left to your destination.
Caution: Traffic on W. Bush Lake Rd. Note: Bike Trail along W. 84th and Normandale Blvd.
Caution: traffic on Penn Ave and on Minnesota Dr.
Along Hiawatha, there is a bike path that runs north/south. This is the LRT trail
Pedestrian bridge from Hamline to Energy drive
at penn and 394 follow path along S ide of 394 to kenilworth trail.
Exit Midtown greenway at bryant
Ride minnehaha pkay bike path
At Franklin and the LRT bridge, go up the stairs to catch the LRT trail
Not a great route but it keeps you off busy streets as much as possible and gets you over railroad yards and highways.
* Take sidewalk/bike path on Fairview
Take the Midtown Greenway to the Kenilworth and continue on the SW LRT Trail to Valley View. Trail turns to hard pack west of Hopkins.
From Texas and Cedar Lake Road go to the Cedar Bike Trail and head east. Follow the trail past Cedar Lake and take a right at the intersection of the bike trails. Go south to Cedar Lake Pkwy. Turn left and go down the hill to Dean Parkway. Turn right on Dean Pkwy and follow around to the bridge where you will connect to the Greenway Bike Trail. Take the Greenway east (left) until you reach the Chicago Avenue exit. Go up to Chicago Avenue and go north to E. 26th Street. Turn right to 910 E. 26th.
Take W. 33rd Street to Bryant Avenue. Turn left and go north to the Midtown Greenway bike trail.
Enter the bikeway at Bryant down the ramp. Turn right and head east until you come to the end of the bikeway at West River Parkway. Exit down the ramp and connect to West River Parkway. There is a bike path or you can ride in the roadway if you are comfortable riding there. Follow West River Parkway to the Lake Street Bridge. Turn left and cross the bridge on the south side of the bridge. When you reach the St. Paul side of the Mississippi River turn right and connect to Mississippi River Blvd. Follow Mississippi Blvd. There is a bike path on the road or on the boulevard. Follow the bike path past the Ford plant until you reach Magoffin Avenue. Turn left and to to South Cleveland Avenue. Turn left and go to W. Montreal Avenue. Follow Montreal until you reach Snelling and your destination.
I have not ridden this route; it is a planning phase of an upcoming tour. Use at your own risk.
Your route is long, but most of it is on bike trails.
Go south on Nicollet to the Midtown Greenway Bike Trail. Turn left (east) and follow the trail. At 28th Street you can either continue on the bike trail and cross Hiawatha Avenue using the cool Martin Sabo Bridge (beautiful at night) or you can turn right at 28th Street and cross Hiawatha at the traffic light. Turn right and continue on West River Pkwy. either on the bike path or road to the Lake Street Bridge. Cross the Lake Street Bridge and continue on what has now become Marshall Avenue in St. Paul. Take Marshall up the hill and continue until you reach Hamline Avenue.Turn left on Hamline and continue on Hamline to University Avenue. Turn right on University Avenue one block to Syndicate St. N. Turn right at Syndicate to your destination.
Occasionally there will be a train going on Como Ave (see star on map near Lake Como). If you want to get around it, you can backtrack north and make a left at Como Ave and then turn south on Chatsworth which has a tunnel to get under the tracks.
Instead of E --> E2, Old Hwy 8 can be used (to D-->Fairview) but is a high traffic area.
The bike lane on Lexington terminates at Larpenteur. If the 4 blocks to Hoyt has too high of traffic, going east on Roselawn from Lexington to Victoria and then south will avoid that area.
County C has a bike path on the south side of the road.
Take 1st Avenue North, cross Lake Street. Take a left onto Cecil Newman Lane which takes you to Nicollet - to the left there is a dead end which is where the entrance to the Greenway is. Enter the Greenway, take a left to head East. When you reach 28th Street/Hiawatha, take the bike bridge over Hiawatha. (Note: before you enter onto the bridge, you must cross 28th where cross traffic does not have to stop.)
There is a bike path on Radisson as well as a shoulder.
County Rd J and Lexington (switches sides at Co Rd I) should have bike paths as well.
Can also consider MetroTransit Route 262.
This route will take you from Quality Bicycle Products to the Midtwon Greenway north of Lake Calhoun. Traffic is generally low, but you will have to mix with traffic along France Ave and American blvd in Bloomington. The loops around Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun will change depending on whether you take the bike parth or road.
This route will take you from Quality Bicycle Products to the Humphrey Terminal Station. The best way into and out of the airport by bike is from this station. You can ride the LRT without charge from the Lindbergh Terminal Station to the Humphrey Terminal Station.
This route uses the bike trail through Hyland Park Reserve and along E. Bush Lake Rd to get between QBP and Crowne Plaza Hotel on American Blvd West
Can use paths along 85th Ave N. Bike path is available for crossing over 610.
Medicine Lake Dr, Northwest Blvd, and Bass Lake Rd all have wide trails to the side of the road that are better for cycling.
Park Ave has a dedicated bike lane all the way to S 9th St, which also has a dedicated bike lane to LaSalle Ave. Approx. 6 miles each way.
Use caution on Old Shakopee Rd.
Entrance to 494 path bridge is at end of American Blvd in cul-de-sac.
Starting in uptown and following most of the grand rounds paths around Minneapolis and the U of M. A good mixed ride, quality hills and lots of good scenery.
Starting out on the south beach of Cedar Lake, we go along the shores of Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. Getting off on the Minnehaha Creek Trail/Parkway, we go east, skimming the north shore of Lake Nokomis. Crossing Hiawatha, and eventually running into the West (Mississippi) River Pky going north to the Greenway and westward back home. This is a pretty route and great for all skill levels. It's entirely paved, safe and there are many fun stops off of the trail. Enjoy.
TaKen on July 30th, it was beautiful and easy. On the way back, there are a fair amount of hills on Bloomington, so if you're expecting it, no biggie, but after pushing hard for most of the ride, then dealing with that half way through, it can be a little rough. Oh, and Bloomington is currently in the middle of being seal-coated, so it's not a smooth ride.
This was my first bike camping trip with my boyfriend. I had driven this route many times on the way to the river. It's a pretty drive, but I failed to recall just how hilly it was toward the end. My advice, DO NOT ATTEMPT ON A SINGLE SPEED BIKE!!! (that is unless you are a masochist) :)
This is the route of the September 19th, 2010 (fourth annual) Minneapolis Bike Tour. The route differed from the previous year in that it stayed on the west side of the Mississippi (the Camden Bridge was closed for repairs when the route was set).
A ride to work via secondary streets.
Construction on Washington Avenue occasioned some minor route changes; the upper level of the bridge is still available to bikes and pedestrians. The major variations: (a) take West Mississippi River Pkwy to the Greenway [longer, but pretty on a nice day]; (b) Take Cedar south, and join the Hiawatha Trail at the Franklin Rail Station [shorter, but can be bad traffic]; (c) take the Greenway all the way to Lake Calhoun and come around BOTH lakes [longer, but pretty; sometimes lots of pedestrian traffic]
The route as displayed is pretty agreeable; 10 blocks on Bryant Avenue, but traffic is usually not bad enough to make that unpleasant. The trip CAN be made with only a few blocks on streets, if one has a bit of extra time.
A serviceable commuting route to the University of Minnesota for folks living in the western suburbs. One can drive to a Park-and-Ride lot within bikable distance, and bike the rest of the way. The Hopkins Park-and-Ride is a good choice, because the route in to the "U" is then almost all on dedicated bikeways -- so it's quite mellow. It's also within a few blocks of a student-run coffee shop, so one can pause for coffee and a snack before finishing the trip home.
Hopkins to the University of MN Hospital via the Kenilworth and Cedar Lake Trails. The connection from the Twins Stadium to the Mississippi is not open yet as of mid-May 2011, and its exact route may be a little different.
There are a couple little hills on this route. The section from the new Twins Stadium to the Mississippi is supposed to open in June 2011.
Alternative commuting route from Hopkins, crossing at Franklin rather than Washington
