A large part of this route is on the quite back roads of Harriman State Park.  The climb up into Harriman is very steep so you may need to stop part way up.

Lots of long, but not too steep uphills.  Section along Long Meadow Road has very little traffic, but that is more than made up for by the busy Rout 17 section.
