Routes in United States / Washington / Seattle

This is a route from the 5th and Jackson bus drop-off to Colman Pool in Lincoln Park.

Beginning from the University District in Seattle, this route will take you to Issaquah via the Burke-Gilman (paved), Sammamish River (paved), and Lake Sammamish (gravel) trails. The terrain is flat the entire way, making for a nice long ride without having to worry too much about vehicle traffic.

I actually followed the burke gillman trail for most of this, but it doesn't show up on the map.

We went out and around lake Union and it didn't feel very long so we rode out to Mathews beach. The ride around was on Eastlake and that wasn't very pleasant.

It's a ride I'm thinking about doing, I'm hoping ot find some trails that connect.

A quick in-city ride.  The 'highlights' of the route are the consistent inclines of Taylor Avenue (Queen Anne) and Thorndyke.  These two hills are great for working on uphill cadence as neither are overly steep and long enough to allow the rider to adjust.  And at under 30k, one might be able to fit this into a lunch hour (if you're faster than I am ;) )

Note:  The return from Magnolia to Downtwon Seattle has the rider returning on the Myrttle Edwards Bike trail.  The north entrance to this trail is along the west side of the railroad tracks.  Watch out for tourists walking on the bike path when riding through the park.

This goes up one of the steepest sections of Queen Anne hill. Part of the road is actually one-way (going down) so you should be careful. It's very steep. A great accomplishment to get to the top!

This is a nice ride on the burke gilman from ballard to the city park at matthews beach.  We did it on our tandem in just under an hour and 15 minutes.  In some areas it gets a little congested with pedestrians, cyclists and cars at the road crossings, but it's a nice ride.

This is just my route to work -- not a bad ride, but nothing exciting.

Nast, brutish and short.

This is a great ride, mostly on trails and pretty flat.

I do not recommend the Alki beach trail to fast cyclists. We had to ride in the road most of the time. Perhaps on a rainy day or a weekday it would be more pleasant.

The 'H' maker we're using as our current location/progress marker--despite it being the automatic 'Hotel' symbol. The 'Water Supply' markers designate a place where we're for sure going to swim.

Ride around mercer island.  Will write more once I've tried it. :-)

This was a pretty fun ride through the magnolia neighborhood.

From the University Bridge to West Seattle and back.

This route goes by Alki Point, a series of less well known waterfront parks, through Lincoln Park, and heads back into downtown.  This trail crosses the lower West Seattle (draw)Bridge, which allows bikes.

While most of the ride is level, there are some very steep climbs at about the halfway point, coming into and out of Lincoln Park.

Some of the parks give you the opportunity to ride on dirt, (wet) grass, or gravel, but the entire ride can be done on pavement.

This route takes the path-of-least-resistance around Lake Union.  A few points on the map wouldn't follow exactly the route I was trying to enter, but this is very close, will work, and you'll be able to find more direct paths in these few cases.  ( For example, the southwestern "corner" of the lake can be hugged. )

There is very little elevation change during this route.  The University Bridge is a slight climb, and you get a free descent after crossing the Fremont Bridge.  The "trail" really does hug the lake and avoid Eastlake when given the chance, specifically to take an easier climb and give the rider a few level blocks to 'rest' between ascents.

This ride will take less than half an hour if you maintain a good pace.

Ride around mercer island.  Will write more once I've tried it. :-)

Ride to the Port Angeles ferry to Victoria from Downtown Seattle.

Tried searching for this one and couldn't believe it wasn't here.  Hope to see you all at this year's event.  Let's have a beer at the finish line (Sat. night)
