43-mile loop over moderate to excellent road surface.  One long climb.  Park beside the road on WV 32 at intersection with WV 72.  Take 72 to Hambleton, winding along the hillside with a couple of descents and short climbs.  Turn right on US 219 past Hambleton, and begin the big climb to the top of Backbone Mountain (1590 feet in 5.4 miles).  It starts gentle, but gets steeper toward the top.  Stay on 219 to Thomas, WV over rolling hills.  Turn right on 32 at the bridge and go to Davis, WV.  Climb a smaller hill to the edge of Canaan Valley, then descend into the Valley.  Finally, a short descent out of Canaan Valley and back down to the intersection of 32 and 72.
