Routes in United States / West Virginia / Fayetteville
Plenty of hills and great views. About a two-hour chug out and back.Begin in Fayetteville and cross the New River Gorge Bridge. Hang a right at the National Park Serivce overlook and another right at 'Stupid's Corner.'
Instead of dropping into the Gorge, take a left on Fayette Station Road and enjoy the first hill.
Your rewarded with Milroy Grose road. A great downhill through Mountain Laurel lined pavement leads you to Mill Creek and then up passed Little Eden to Hwy 19.
Cross 10 on to Opossum Creek rd. Don't stare at the hillbilly on the left and prepare for small Terriers to be snapping at your heels.
Drop into Wilis road at the Church and Air-strip intersection. After 3 ups and downs, hang a left at the Rock Wall 'T' when you run into Mill Creek again.
A short (but painful) uphill lands you on Chestnutburg. Hang a left and watch for deer.
Go passed Class VI River Runners and ahang a right at Burma Rd. Go against a windy one-way on the edge of the Gorge for about 1/2 mile.
Then drop on to Fayette Station Road, head down to New River and have a nice 900ft of climbing to finish the ride.
Wish I could get the vertical, not sure why that info is not available. I'll look into other topos applications.
This is a sweet ride lead by our friends at New River Bike. Good for group rides, plenty of hills, single-speed friendly and Nice and Clean...unless you get 3 flat tires, like our friend, Porter.
Head out from Fayetteville across the New River Gorge Bridge and hang a left at Stoopid's Corner up passed Kenny and Kislter Corner and on to Milroy Grose.
Ride north on Rt 19 to your first Left on to Smales Branch Road. Say hi to Rsie at Rosy's Hideaway where you can duck in for a quick can of Budweiser to go! Insert beer in jersey!
Head out North on 19 once you reach Hwy 60 and duck into Songer Whitewater and hang a right on to Miller Ridge Road.
Head on to Arrow Creek (unmarked and pronouced "air-crick" by the locals) then hit Sunday Road and loop-on-back to Hico.
From Hico, you can drop down Opossum Creek and meet up with Ames Heights; but, if its getting late, jump on 19 South and ask Wes for a beer on the downhill.
Dip into the Gorge via Fayette Station Road and get beat up the 900 ft hill by Porter running w/ his bike over his shoulder on his 3rd flat tire!
Approximately 32 1/2 miles (longer if you don't have to help Porter) of scenic farm views with great light! This makes for a great 3 hour ride (shorter if you don't have to help Porter).
Wow. The first time we did this crazy ride, both my riding partner and I went down. He hit a dog. I hit a Duck!
Travel through WV backcountry through scenic farms pass by Hawks Nest State Park for scenic canyon views and stop by Chimney Corner for a cold beer, or glass of wine if you prefer
Begin in Fayetteville, cross the New River Gorge Bridge and hang a left on Ames Heights Road. 1/2 mile later, hang a right on to Opossum Creek Road and enjoy the sloping warm-up until you hit Hwy 60. Make a right on Hwy 60 and in no time, make a left on Stringtown Road
Make you first left on Hawver Road and get ready for a mulit-tierd, windy climb with a steep exit at the intersection of Saturday Road
Take a right on Saturday Road and enjoy the rolling hills and banking turns. You'll loop back to Hwy 60 at Victor and hang right towards the town of Ansted, a true WV gem.
Travel along HWY 60 through Ansted and pass by Hawks Nest State Park until you hit Chimney Corner.
Hang a left and enjoy the 7 mile climb back to Fayettevile!
This road takes you back through the northern end of Michaux State Forest. Its a beautiful ride with long curvy uphills and great vistas. Bring supplies, food, and water because this route is very remote.
Terrain: Half ot the terrain is rough, gravelly, rutty. More suited for a hybrid bike with a 28 or larger tire or a moutain bike.
Traffic: The forest service roads are pretty deserted. However, since there are no shoulders and some spots are narrow, this route requires some good bike handling.
