BKIT Challenge 2010 - A 50 mile ride around Warwickshire countryside in
four stages
25th July 2010 http://www.buwankothi.org.uk/cycle.htm
Stage
1 Royal Leamington Spa to Clifford Chambers Stage Distance =
16 miles
Starting promptly at 10:30 from the Bandstand in the Pump
Room Gardens in Royal Leamington Spa.
We then cycle past the art
deco style facade of Leamington Railway Station before crossing the
Grand Union Canal on cycle track before heading towards Warwick on the
Myton Road.
At the roundabout at the top of Myton Road we glimpse
Warwick Castle on our right as we turn left on the A425 Banbury Road.
After a brief stretch on this busy road we turn right, crossing through
the village of Barford.
We then cycle past the grounds of
stately Charlecote Park (if you're lucky you may see some fallow Deer,
tourists are more likely though).
We proceed passing close by
helicoptors and light aircraft at Wellesbourne Airfield. Turning right
at the top of the road we continue towards Loxley on sweeping country
roads through patchwork quilted fields.
Once through Loxley
(recorded as a thriving agricultural community in 1086 by the
Domesday Book) we turn left skirting through Stratford with the River
Avon on our right hand side. We head out through the Shipston Road
hurtling towards the first stage stop at the New Inn in the village of
Clifford Chambers.
