LEJOG 2010 - Stage Twelve
(64.8 mi, by alfresco1)
ridden on 15. 07 2010, 1 round (64.8 mi), vertical climb ca. 0 ft , in 5:21:00, with an average speed of 12.1 mph A mixture of hilly single track A roads with passing places in the early part of this stage followed by more rolling recently improved A roads along the north coast of Scotland heading east towards John O'Groats. |

LEJOG 2010 - Stage Eleven
(87.4 mi, by alfresco1)
ridden on 14. 07 2010, 1 round (87.4 mi), vertical climb ca. 0 ft , in 7:18:00, with an average speed of 12.0 mph An exhausting long day's cycling over the remote moors of Caithness and Sutherland to Tongue on the north coast of Scotland. The early section on the A9 over the Black Isle is okay if the weather is good. However, driving wind and rain made this not so enjoyable for me. Once off it, the quiet single track A roads with passing places are superb for cyclists with a taste for remote empty moorlands. |

LEJOG 2010 - Stage Ten
(83.2 mi, by alfresco1)
ridden on 13. 07 2010, 1 round (83.2 mi), vertical climb ca. 0 ft , in 6:06:00, with an average speed of 13.6 mph A relatively straightforward day's cycling following the A82 right through to Inverness. Fairly flat route at first, getting hillier around Loch Ness, where it is also more dangerous due to heavier traffic and deep drop-offs at the edge of the road onto massive pebbles. An alternative quieter but hillier route would be to take the B road at Fort Augustus around the eastern side of Loch Ness. |

LEJOG 2010 - Stage Nine
(99.9 mi, by alfresco1)
ridden on 12. 07 2010, 1 round (99.9 mi), vertical climb ca. 0 ft , in 7:25:00, with an average speed of 13.5 mph A half hour ferry ride from Arran starts off this beautiful route for cycling, if you don't mind a long ride (102 miles). Spectacular views on a mixture of quiet B roads around lochs and the main A82 over Rannoch Moor and through Glencoe to the youth hostel. Some steep hill climbs but well worth it for the long exciting descent at the end of the route. |
|
LEJOG 2010 - Stage Eight
(104.3 mi, by alfresco1)
ridden on 11. 07 2010, 1 round (104.3 mi), vertical climb ca. 0 ft , in 7:53:00, with an average speed of 13.2 mph A long haul to Ardrossan for ferry to Arran. A76 okay for cyclists on a Sunday but A roads dangerous around Kilmarnock and Irvine. Strong headwinds and rain made this a difficult ride especially with the added pressure of having to meet the ferry departure deadline. Cycling on Arran is brilliant with a mixture of gently rolling roads and steep lanes with spectacular views around NE coast to Lochranza. |

Once out of Liverpool, quite a few good quality cycleways alongside main route A59. Some minor hills on approaching Lancaster and Kendal. |
|
