Zurich to Stein am Rhein

Roll out from Zurich’s Unterstrass and head north through the Zürcher Weinland (aka Wyland) to the Rhine-side gem of Stein am Rhein. It’s a varied ride that mixes quiet country roads, farm tracks, cycleways, and a few busier stretches. Most of it is paved, with some gravel and the odd cobbled section, so wider tires are a plus but not a must. The profile is gently rolling rather than mountainous, with steady ups and downs and plenty of scenery: villages, fields, and vineyards along the way. At the finish, Stein am Rhein’s beautifully preserved old town is perfect for a quick stroll and a snack before the trip back. Trains run at both ends, making returns easy. Bring a bottle and top up in towns—there are regular cafés and shops en route, but some rural gaps between them.
