Austin - Circle to Bee Cave

This was a challenging circle with plenty of ups and downs. Some of the initial climbs after crossing the Colorado River into West Lake Hills were terribly steep. This West Lake Hills portion of the ride, until turning onto Bee Cave Road, were the only low-traffic roads. Pretty much all of the rest of the ride along Bee Cave Road/FM2244 and West Highway 71 was with pretty heavy traffic. While it was noisy, it wasn't a problem as there were excellent wide shoulders for probably 98% of the time. There was even a little that could be labeled scenic along West Highway 71. Getting closer to Austin's center, the route includes some separate bike path that made getting back into the city very safe and easy.

Finally departed from Austin after more than a month. Ride to Giddings was excellent. Virtually all was either trail (getting out of Austin as far as Manor) or very low-traffic country roads. The route couldn't have been better. Highly recommended.

Virtually all of this ride was on either neighborhood roods or arterial roads with good bike lanes. I had originally planned to ride into McKinney Falls State Park, but with the $6 entry fee, I passed on entering the park and got no farther than the entry booth where one could pay the entry fee.
