The first section takes you from Dobbiaco / San Candido (Italy) to Lienz. This part of the trail was the first to be built and is still one of the best developed today.
As the Dobbiaco to Lienz stage has a downward gradient, there is no elevation to contend with, which also makes the Drau cycle path suitable for families with small children. There are many stations to be found along the way, so you can also take the train at any time.
The route is well signposted, paved throughout and generally runs right beside the river.
Beside it you will also find many spots for stopping and having a rest.
Most important places en route:
Dobbiaco (Toblach) - San Candido (Innichen) - Sillian - Tassenbach - Strassen - Abfaltersbach - Mittewald - Assling-Thal - Leisach - Lienz
Section length: 47 km
