Four cols and most of the route up and out of the valley. A variant is to follow the plateau des Petites Roches instead of the St. Nazaire - La Terrasse, eliminating any valley travel. I've always done this loop counter-clockwise ending with the Col du Coq from the north: a very tough finish.
