F45 Cycle Highway: Ghent–Oudenaarde–Kortrijk

A fast, mostly paved link between Ghent, Oudenaarde, and Kortrijk. The F45 is clearly signed, with long car‑free stretches and plenty of quiet roads, so it’s easy to follow and great for commuting or a relaxed day out.

The ride is largely flat across the Flemish lowlands, tracing rivers and canals with open views and village stops for coffee. Expect smooth asphalt almost the whole way, with a few short bits of paving stones in historic centers and the odd wooden bridge.

Highlights along the way: Ghent’s canals and medieval streets, Oudenaarde’s cycling heritage on the Scheldt (hello, Ronde van Vlaanderen Center), and Kortrijk’s Broel Towers on the Leie. All three cities have good train connections, so riding one way and hopping a train back is super easy.

Tips: bring lights for a couple of underpasses, take care at occasional street crossings, and plan for wind on open sections. Follow the F45 markers (locals say “Fietssnelweg”) and enjoy the smooth cruise.
