Bikepacking from Yilan to Hsinchu

Ready for a real adventure? This epic cycling route takes you from the green heart of Yilan, known for its hot springs and rice paddies, all the way to bustling Hsinchu, the “Windy City” famous for its tech industry and historic old streets.

You’ll cover almost 200 km, and there’s some serious climbing: expect beautiful mountain passes, with nearly 4,500 meters of total ascent! Most of the ride is on quiet roads and dedicated cycleways, letting you enjoy Taiwan’s lush scenery—and giving your legs a nice break from traffic. Around 85% of the surface is a bit of a mystery (think mixed, possibly some gravel or unpaved stretches) so a sturdy bike and a spirit for adventure will go a long way.
