Cycling day trip from Nazaré to Peniche

Set off from the dramatic clifftops of Nazaré, famous for its monstrous Atlantic waves and charming old town vibes, and head south towards Peniche on a route that’s sure to keep things interesting. This is a 68 km adventure with a fair bit of climbing—expect around 750 m of elevation gain as you roll along the rugged coastline.

Most of your ride is on quiet, paved country roads and stretches of gravel track, which means you’ll get plenty of peace along the way (and maybe a little dust on your bike). The scenery transitions from sea cliffs and pine forests to windswept dunes, and there’ll be plenty of sweeping ocean views to soak up. Pack for a bit of mixed terrain and keep an eye out for the occasional village bakery for a pastel de nata break.

You’ll cruise into Peniche, a laid-back surf town perched on a peninsula, known for its historic fort and awesome seafood. Celebrate at one of the local marisqueiras or catch the sunset by Cabo Carvoeiro—ending your ride in true coastal Portuguese style!
