Cycling day trip from Hirtshals to Skagen

This is a beautiful North Jutland ride from the lively ferry town of Hirtshals up along the scenic coast to Denmark’s northernmost point, Skagen. You’ll cover around 60 kilometers, with gentle climbs and descent, and most of the route is along quiet asphalt roads and good cycleways—so it’s perfect for a relaxed day in the saddle.

Starting in Hirtshals, famous for its dramatic lighthouse and as a bustling port connecting Denmark with Norway, you’ll quickly find yourself rolling through open coastal landscapes dotted with dunes and sleepy fishing villages. The salty North Sea breeze is a constant companion.

Skagen, your destination, is known for its unique light and the ‘meeting of the seas,’ where the Baltic and North Seas collide at Grenen—a must-see after your ride. Along the way, you’ll be on mostly smooth surfaces, with only a small portion of the surface missing or unpaved, so bring a repair kit just in case, but you shouldn’t run into any trouble.
