Cycling day trip from Ellesmere Port to Blacon

Set off from Ellesmere Port and enjoy a scenic ride south towards Blacon, skirting along the edges of the Wirral. The route is predominantly on cycleways (almost 70%), which means you can really settle in and enjoy the views without worrying about heavy traffic. You’ll mostly travel on smooth, paved, or asphalt paths—great for a relaxed ride.

Ellesmere Port is known for its industrial history and waterfront location, and you’ll spot some remnants of its shipping heritage as you roll out of town. Heading towards Blacon, you’ll follow a green corridor for much of the way, making it a surprisingly leafy route for an urban journey.

Arriving in Blacon, a residential suburb north of Chester, you’ll find yourself close to the Welsh border and right next to the historic city of Chester if you fancy extending your ride. With gentle elevations (less than 50 meters ascent) and mostly quiet roads, this 22 km trip is perfect for a leisurely afternoon on the bike.
