By bicycle from East Ham to Hackney

Head out from East Ham, the vibrant and multicultural heart of East London, and cycle northwest towards Hackney—a journey that’s as much about the city’s evolving neighborhoods as it is about smooth cycling.

The ride is a little over 11 km, so you’ll have plenty of time to soak up the sights without turning it into a marathon. Thanks to the abundance of proper cycleways (over half the route!) and quiet residential roads, you’ll avoid the worst of London’s traffic and get plenty of chances to relax and cruise. The terrain is mostly flat with only gentle ups and downs—no thigh-burning hills here.

You’ll pass through a mix of bustling high streets, humble parks, and glimpses of London’s industrial history before reaching Hackney. Once mainly known for its creative energy, Hackney today is packed with cool cafés, street art, and green spaces like London Fields. It’s a perfect excuse to treat yourself to a coffee at the end of the ride!
