Bikepacking from Villach to Ljubljana

This route takes you from the charming Austrian town of Villach all the way to the vibrant Slovenian capital, Ljubljana—a cross-border cycling adventure of about 152 km! Starting in Villach, known for its quaint old town and riverside charm, you'll head south and tackle some solid climbing (nearly 2,400 meters of ascent), with max elevations just below 900 meters. The ride is mostly on quiet roads and smooth cycleways, making it perfect for relaxed bike touring.

Roll through the scenic valleys and gentle peaks of the Julian Alps, passing lush forests and rivers, and enjoy plenty of downhill spins after the climbs. Most of the surfaces are paved, though be prepared for a few sections with looser gravel and the occasional missing pavement, so a sturdy bike (and maybe some adventure in your soul) is recommended.
