By bicycle from Velden am Wörther See to Maria Wörth

Roll out from Velden am Wörther See’s promenade, a chic resort best known for Casino Velden and the lakeside Schloss hotel. Head east on the Wörthersee cycleway, skimming the turquoise shore with the odd detour inland on quiet roads. It’s a mellow 20 km with roughly 330 m of total climbing—short, punchy ramps rather than long grinds. Surfaces are mostly smooth and paved, with the occasional easy gravel patch.

Cafés and swim spots pop up all along the way; Pörtschach makes a handy mid-ride stop. The final stretch leads you onto the peninsula of Maria Wörth, where twin hilltop churches overlook the lake—one of Carinthia’s iconic pilgrimage and wedding spots.

Route feel: about two-thirds quiet roads and a third cycleway; traffic is generally light. Bring a lock and a towel, and time your finish for golden hour—the views over Wörthersee are worth it.
