Bikepacking from Salzburg to Innsbruck

This route takes you from the beautiful baroque city of Salzburg, famous as Mozart’s birthplace and famous for its stunning fortress views, all the way into the heart of the Tyrolean Alps at Innsbruck. Expect about 210 km of diverse cycling, mostly on smooth paved surfaces (close to 90%), with some gentle gravel tracks mixed in to keep things interesting.

You’ll pedal through classic Alpine scenery, lush meadows, and along peaceful river paths, with a few solid climbs totaling over 1,500 meters of ascent—nothing too extreme, but enough for a good challenge and some fantastic panoramic views. This ride mostly keeps you away from busy traffic, winding instead along quiet roads and cycling tracks. Be prepared for a long day or split this adventure into two, taking time to explore the quaint towns and stop for apple strudel along the way.

A highlight? Rolling into Innsbruck, known for its colorful Old Town and as a two-time Winter Olympics host city, surrounded by mountain peaks. Whether for the ride or the destinations, this route is Alpine cycling at its best!
