Cycling day trip from Salzburg to Bischofshofen

Ready for a classic ride through Austria’s spectacular heartland? This route takes you from the enchanting city of Salzburg—birthplace of Mozart and home to “The Sound of Music”—all the way down to the alpine gateway of Bischofshofen, famous for its annual Four Hills ski jump tournament.

It’s about 60 km and while you’ll definitely feel the 850 m of climbing, most of the ride is on paved roads and smoother cycleways with gorgeous views of the Salzach River, distant mountains, and plenty of lush countryside. Expect a great mix of quiet backroads and scenic paths, with just enough busy sections to keep it interesting. There are a few gravel stretches, so sturdy tires are a good call!
