Cycling day trip from Mauerbach to Vienna

This cycling route takes you from the peaceful town of Mauerbach—on the edge of Vienna’s famed Wienerwald—right into the heart of vibrant Vienna. You’ll cover about 27 kilometers along a mostly smooth, paved surface, with plenty of dedicated cycleways and quiet roads, meaning you can pedal at your own pace and really enjoy the ride.

Starting in Mauerbach, which is known for its beautiful baroque monastery and forest surroundings, you’ll have some gentle climbs and a little over 250 meters of total ascent; you’ll also descend more than you climb, making the route feel rewarding once you cruise towards Vienna proper. The route is mostly asphalt and concrete, with just a tiny stretch on gravel, so standard road bikes are perfect.
