Cycling day trip from Hainburg an der Donau to Marianka

Set off from the picturesque town of Hainburg an der Donau, right on the Austrian-Slovak border and famous for its medieval gates and impressive castle ruins above the Danube. This ride gives you plenty of scenic views as you roll along mostly quiet roads and smooth cycleways (over two-thirds are lovely, reliable asphalt). You’ll skirt gently up and down through rolling countryside—with just over 500 meters of ascent, your legs will get a workout, but it’s nothing too wild if you pace yourself.

After a brief stretch on peaceful tracks and a couple of concrete patches, you’ll cross into Slovakia, heading north toward the charming pilgrimage village of Marianka. Tucked into the forested hills just outside Bratislava, Marianka is well known for its tranquil atmosphere and centuries-old pilgrimage site.

At just under 37 kilometers, this route is perfect for a half-day adventure that mixes history, nature, and a slice of cross-border exploration. Take your time, enjoy the views, and reward yourself with a stroll around Marianka’s leafy trails before heading back!
