Cycling day trip from Trier to Saarburg

This scenic ride starts in Trier, Germany’s oldest city, famous for its Roman ruins (don’t skip the Porta Nigra if you haven't seen it!). From here, you’ll follow mostly quiet paved paths and a sprinkle of cobbles and concrete as you wind through the lush Moselle valley.

With gentle ups and downs (about 167 m climbing total), you’ll cruise through vineyards, meadows, and charming river towns, mostly away from busy roads. The route’s over 96% paved and feels quite relaxed, perfect for a leisurely outing.

You’ll finish in Saarburg, a picturesque town best known for its hilltop castle and a waterfall rushing right through the old town—grab a coffee by the waterside and take in the views before heading back or hopping on the train. This route is a classic for a reason: beautiful scenery, easy riding, and plenty of places to stop for a slice of cake!
