Cycling day trip from Rath to Lindlar

This ride takes you from Rath, on the edge of lively Cologne, all the way to the charming town of Lindlar in the Bergisches Land. You’ll roll through about 45 km of mostly paved paths (perfect for road or touring bikes), ticking off a good 500 meters of climbing along the way—so expect a few hills, especially as you leave the city behind for the green hills east of Cologne.

The route is super scenic, starting from urban outskirts and quickly moving into quiet countryside, forests, and classic villages. Most of the ride keeps you away from busy roads: about 80% is on smooth asphalt, and around 80% follows bike paths, so it’s peaceful and safe. You’ll hit a few stretches of gravel and paving stones, so wider tires help, but it’s overwhelmingly paved.
