Cycling day trip from Norddeich to Wirdum

This leisurely cycling route takes you from Norddeich, a popular North Sea ferry port known for its beaches and the gateway to Norderney, all the way down to the charming village of Wirdum. Covering just over 22 km, the ride is mostly flat (typical for East Frisia) with barely 12 meters of ascent, so it’s easy cruising whether you’re a casual cyclist or out with family.

The path weaves mostly over paved surfaces and quiet country roads, giving you plenty of chances to soak up the peaceful landscapes — endless green meadows, windmills, and grazing sheep are all part of the East Frisian charm. About 17% is over traditional paving stones, which just adds a bit of rustic flavor.

Arriving in Wirdum, you’ll find a tranquil village surrounded by farmland and dotted with classic brick houses. Not many tourists make it here, so it’s a proper local experience. All in all, it’s a perfect ride if you’re after wide skies, fresh sea air, and a taste of the slow-paced coast.
