Cycling day trip from Jena to Weimar

This scenic cycling route takes you from the vibrant university city of Jena to the classic city of Weimar, covering just over 27 km. Starting in Jena—famous for its innovative spirit, beautiful old town, and the striking green Saale valley—you’ll wind your way west through a mix of quiet roads, tracks, and a few stretches of gravel. Most of the route is nicely paved, but don’t be surprised by a little cobblestone and gravel here and there—just adds to the adventure!

You’ll gain about 324 meters in elevation, so expect a few climbs, but those rolling hills are rewarded with gorgeous Thuringian countryside views. As you approach Weimar, you’ll roll into a city known worldwide for Goethe, Schiller, Bauhaus, and tons of cultural history—well worth exploring once you arrive.
