Cycling day trip from Holzminden to Hamelin

This ride takes you from Holzminden, a charming Weser town known for its half-timbered houses and fragrant “city of scents and aromas,” all the way to beautiful Hamelin—which, of course, is world famous for its legendary Pied Piper.

You’ll cover just about 50 kilometers, gently tracing the Weser Valley and rolling through a mix of paved paths, quiet roads, and a smattering of gravel and paving stones. Expect a little over 500 meters of climbing—nothing too intense but enough to keep things interesting as the scenery shifts from riverbanks to forested stretches and open countryside.

About three-quarters of your ride is smooth paved or asphalt, but you’ll want wider tires for some gravelly and unpaved segments, especially on the paths threading through the countryside. The route mainly steers clear of busy roads, so you can soak up the green views and maybe spot some Weser Renaissance architecture en route.

Once you roll into Hamelin, be sure to check out the old town and follow the rat motifs hidden in the streets. Coffee and cake in a historic square is a must!
