Freiberg to Niederschöna Cycling Route
Get ready for a scenic ride from the historic mining town of Freiberg to the charming village of Niederschöna! This roughly 18 km route takes you through the rolling hills and quiet roads of Saxony—perfect if you’re up for a relaxed escape from city life.
You’ll start in Freiberg, a town known for its incredible medieval center and centuries-old mining tradition (it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site!). The first few kilometers weave you out of town, mostly on peaceful roads and the occasional cycleway. You’ll climb about 180 meters on the whole trip, but with more descent, so expect a gentle workout rather than a lung-buster.
The route sticks mostly to paved or asphalt surfaces, so road bikes are a good bet. There are a few gravel and unpaved stretches, but nothing a sporty hybrid can’t handle.
Ending in Niederschöna, you’ll find a tranquil rural vibe—the perfect spot to kick back or refuel. Altogether, it’s a perfect short adventure through picturesque Saxon countryside!
