Cycling day trip from Emden to Leer

Set out from Emden, the historic harbor town known for its bustling North Sea port and quirky Otto Huus museum, and enjoy a breezy 30 km ride southeast to Leer. This easygoing route keeps things almost pancake-flat—maximum elevation is just over 7 meters—so it’s perfect for a relaxed day on the saddle.

You’ll cruise mostly along quiet paths and some peaceful roads, with plenty of open marshland vistas typical for Ostfriesland. The surfaces are mostly paved or asphalt, with occasional stretches of paving stones and concrete (watch those for a bit of extra rumble!). There isn’t much traffic, leaving you free to spot grazing sheep or the wind turbines spinning away in the distance.
