By bicycle from Bonn to Meckenheim

This scenic cycling route takes you from the lively city of Bonn—former capital of West Germany and home to Beethoven’s birthplace—all the way to the charming town of Meckenheim, nestled in the foothills of the Eifel. Covering about 17.5 kilometers, it’s perfect if you’re looking for a leisurely ride with a peaceful vibe.

You’ll mostly roll along lovely paved paths and smooth asphalt, weaving through green landscapes, parks, and occasional stretches of quiet roads. Don’t worry about traffic—about 70% of the route follows bike-friendly paths. There’s a gentle climb early on, giving your legs a nice warm-up, but the rest is pretty easygoing.

Just before reaching Meckenheim, enjoy the sight of orchards and the surrounding countryside—it’s a great spot for a snack break. Once in town, you’re in the “apple capital” of the region, so grab a local cider or pastry if you have the chance!
