By bicycle from Bad Oeynhausen to Porta Westfalica

This scenic cycling route takes you from the spa town of Bad Oeynhausen, known for its historic thermal baths and beautiful Kurpark, to Porta Westfalica, the dramatic “Gateway to Westphalia” where the Weser River cuts through striking hills.

The ride covers just under 12 km, mostly on smooth paved surfaces with very little traffic—perfect if you want a relaxed outing. You’ll roll out from Bad Oeynhausen’s leafy avenues, catch some countryside views, and meander alongside the Weser River for stretches, making for an easy, low-stress trip with only gentle climbs and descents.

Arriving in Porta Westfalica, don’t miss the towering Kaiser Wilhelm Monument perched above the gorge—a local icon and fantastic spot for a photo and a breather. All in all, this is a wonderful short ride combining history, river scenery, and plenty of fresh air.
