Cycling day trip from Propriano to Bonifacio

This ride takes you from the laid-back port town of Propriano on Corsica’s southwestern coast to the dramatic clifftop citadel of Bonifacio at the island’s southern tip. The 99 km journey promises serious leg-burning climbs (over 3200 meters of ascent!), so be ready to earn those sea views.

Much of the route winds through rugged Corsican hills and remote maquis scrubland, with a mix of gravel tracks and quiet roads—ideal for adventurous bikepackers who don’t mind getting a little dust on their derailleurs. Expect a true “off the beaten path” vibe, as nearly half the route is on tracks and only about a fifth is paved.

Highlights include wild inland landscapes, the scent of wild herbs in the air, and occasional views out to the glittering Mediterranean. Your destination, Bonifacio, is perched picture-perfect atop limestone cliffs and is famous for its medieval buildings, maze-like old town, and spectacular views across to Sardinia.
