Cycling day trip from Esztergom to Pilisszentkereszt

This route takes you from the historic city of Esztergom—famous for its massive basilica and scenic views over the Danube—into the lush woodlands of Pilisszentkereszt, sitting in the heart of the Pilis Mountains. Covering just under 30 km, you’ll navigate a nice mix of surfaces: expect stretches of smooth asphalt and quiet country roads, but also some bumpy sections on gravel and forest tracks, which add a little adventure.

There’s a fair amount of climbing (close to 500 meters of ascent!), so save some energy for those hillier bits, especially as you wind deeper into the hills. About half the ride is through tranquil roads and leafy forest paths, making it a perfect escape from city noise.

Finish in Pilisszentkereszt, a village known for its fresh air, hiking trails, and as a gateway to some of the best nature in the region. Bring snacks, check your brakes (for those fun descents!), and get ready for some excellent scenery along the way!
