Cycling day trip from l'Escala to Figueres

Ready for a scenic ride through the heart of the Alt Empordà? This bike route takes you from the charming seaside town of l’Escala up to the lively city of Figueres—a perfect mix of coast, countryside, and culture!

Kick things off in l’Escala, famed for its gorgeous beaches and unbeatable anchovies (don’t miss a taste if you have time). Rolling out of town, you’ll pedal along mostly quiet roads, winding gently through olive groves and little Catalan villages. The route is about 33 km in total and pretty friendly in terms of climbing, with just over 130 meters of ascent—totally doable for most riders.

Expect a variety of surfaces: mainly smooth paved or asphalt roads, but you’ll also hit a bit of gravel and the odd track. Nothing too technical, just enough to keep things interesting. As you approach Figueres, get ready for a dose of surrealism—this town is Salvador Dalí’s birthplace and home to his famous, mind-bending museum.
