Cycling day trip from Burgos to Frómista

This ride takes you from the historic city of Burgos, home to the stunning Gothic cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage!) and heaps of pilgrim energy, all the way to Frómista—a quiet village famed for its perfectly preserved Romanesque church, San Martín.

Covering about 78 km, most of your journey follows gravel tracks and country lanes—so a gravel or sturdy hybrid bike is a great choice. You’ll get a mix of gently rolling hills (expect around 645 meters of climbing) and longer stretches where it’s just you, the open road, and big skies over the sweeping Castilian plains. You’ll also enjoy a mostly downhill trend, losing more altitude than you gain along the way.

Much of this route overlaps with the Camino de Santiago, so don’t be surprised if you spot a few shell-marked signposts and greet fellow pilgrims.
