By bicycle from Korčula to Žrnovo

Ready for a beautiful island ride? This short but punchy cycling route takes you from the historic heart of Korčula, a medieval walled town famous as Marco Polo’s (alleged) birthplace, inland to the peaceful village of Žrnovo. It’s just over 4 km, but don’t be fooled by the distance—there’s a good climb as you leave the coast behind, with about 185 meters of ascent!

You’ll start with some charming old streets and stretches of smooth asphalt, then wind your way uphill through quieter roads and even some gravel—so a hybrid or gravel bike is a good idea. The scenery is classic Dalmatia: Mediterranean pines, vineyards, and peeks of the blue Adriatic. Žrnovo itself is quieter than Korčula town but known for its traditional stone houses and delicious local pasta, “Žrnovski makaruni.”

It’s a great little workout with a big reward: tasty, home-style food and a glimpse of everyday island life away from the tourist crowds. Don’t forget to bring some water and your camera!
