Cycling day trip from Oak Bay to North Saanich

This ride takes you from scenic Oak Bay up to the tranquil countryside of North Saanich—and it’s the perfect blend of seaside views, quiet roads, and a touch of adventure. You'll cover just over 37 km, which makes it a great few-hour journey whether you’re after some fitness or a change of scenery.

Starting in Oak Bay, you’re right by the Salish Sea and some of Victoria’s most beautiful heritage homes. As you make your way north, most of the route sticks to peaceful roads and dedicated cycleways, so it’s relaxed and enjoyable. Once you leave the bustle of the city behind, you’ll pass through forests, farmland, and glimpses of the waterfront.

You’ll get a gentle 185 meters of climbing—enough for a little challenge, but nothing too crazy! North Saanich is known for its rural charm and proximity to the Swartz Bay ferry, making it a natural escape from urban life. There’s a mix of paved and a bit of hard-packed gravel, so a road, hybrid, or gravel bike all do the trick.
