Cycling day trip from Şugag to Novaci

Get ready for a true Carpathian adventure! This cycling route takes you from the village of Șugag in Alba County—nestled at the foothills of the Șureanu Mountains—all the way to the town of Novaci, right at the gateway to Oltenia. Over roughly 137 kilometers, you’ll rack up an incredible 5950+ meters of climbing, reaching up to 2119 meters above sea level.

A good chunk of the ride traverses wild, mixed terrain—expect everything from smooth asphalt to gravel and the occasional bumpy ground or path. More than half the route follows quiet tracks, giving you plenty of mountain solitude, with remarkable forest and alpine views (and maybe a sheep or two for company).
