Cycling day trip from Azuga to Ghioșești

This route takes you from the mountain town of Azuga to the quiet hamlet of Ghioșești, covering about 45 km of mixed terrain through Romania’s beautiful Bucegi and Leaota mountains. Azuga is well-known as a ski resort and starting point for high-mountain hikes, so expect a hearty climb at the beginning—you're set to ascend over 1,600 meters with stunning views, reaching elevations around 1,880 meters.

The surfaces are a real mix: mostly unpaved tracks and mountain paths (about 44% unpaved, just 17% asphalt), so a gravel or mountain bike is definitely the way to go here. You’ll be riding through peaceful forests and alpine clearings, with practically no busy roads to worry about—just the occasional quiet country lane.

After some epic descents (over 2,000 meters!), you’ll finish in Ghioșești, a small village nestled near the Dâmbovița River.
