By bicycle from Bochum-Hordel to Hattingen

Looking for a relaxed ride with a bit of variety, starting in Bochum-Hordel and ending in Hattingen? This nearly 20 km cycling route is mostly smooth and paved (over 90%), mixing in some charming stretches of paving stones and just a splash of gravel to keep things interesting.

Kick off in the historic Bochum-Hordel, once a buzzing mining district and now home to the impressive Zeche Hannover industrial museum—worth a visit if you love Ruhrgebiet history. The ride winds mostly on peaceful paths and quiet roads, so you can soak up the countryside and green spaces between these two Ruhr towns.

You’ll climb a total of 186 meters (it isn’t all flat!), but the effort is rewarded as you approach Hattingen, a picturesque medieval town on the banks of the Ruhr river. Take a stroll through Hattingen’s old town: its half-timbered houses and cozy cafés are perfect for a post-ride bite. All in all, it's a perfect scenic escape with a side of local culture!
