By bicycle from Blair Athol to Birkenhead

This relaxed ride takes you from Blair Athol, a friendly northern suburb known for its diverse community and local parks, all the way over to Birkenhead, sitting right by the Port River and famous for its maritime history and easy-going waterfront vibe.

You’ll cruise about 18 km mostly along quiet roads and smooth cycleways—perfect for an easy-going ride or if you’re new to urban cycling. There’s hardly any climbing (just about 20 meters up and down), so it’s mainly flat the whole way. Expect mostly well-paved surfaces, with the route made up almost entirely of asphalt, making for a smooth spin.

Starting in Blair Athol, you’ll head west, skirting around the city’s edge, then wind through leafy neighbourhoods until you near the water. Once you reach Birkenhead, you can check out the historic Birkenhead Bridge or grab a bite at one of the local cafes.

It’s a great route if you want to see a different side of Adelaide, enjoy a mostly traffic-free ride, and finish beside the water!
