By bicycle from Újbuda to Budapest XII. kerület

This ride starts in lively Újbuda, the south-western heart of Budapest, loved for its riverside cafés, student buzz, and the scenic parks along the Danube. From there, your route heads north and slightly east into Budapest XII. kerület, also known as Hegyvidék ("the Mountain District")—famous for leafy streets, gorgeous villas, and some of the city's best panoramic views.

Expect an enjoyable pedal for just under 10 km, mixing mostly smooth paved surfaces (primarily asphalt) with stretches of historic paving stones. The route is cycle-friendly—over half is dedicated bike path, and nearly all the rest winds through quiet residential roads. There’s a decent climb (about 160 m ascent), making it a fun challenge as you approach the hills of Hegyvidék, but it’s never too tough.
