By bicycle from Budapest IV. kerület to Budapest II. kerület

This ride takes you on a scenic route from Budapest’s IV. kerület (Újpest), a lively district in the city’s north, over to the leafy, hilly streets of II. kerület on the Buda side. At just over 12 km, it’s a comfortable urban ride that gives you a real taste of Budapest’s diversity.

You’ll start in Újpest—named for being “new Pest”—which sprung up with Budapest’s rapid growth at the turn of the 20th century. The cycle-friendly route keeps things smooth, with most of the journey on dedicated cycleways (so you can relax and enjoy the sights!). Much of what isn’t a cycle lane is on quieter roads, so traffic is generally mellow. There’s a little climbing involved (about 147 meters up), but the reward is rolling into the elegant, green II. kerület, known for its historic villas and lush parks on the Buda hills.

Expect mostly good pavement (asphalt and stones), and a mix of cityscapes and surprisingly tranquil corners. Perfect for a relaxed weekend ride—or an adventurous weekday commute!
